Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of 1942 JOINT STRIKE for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade released on Wednesday July 23, 2008. Do you remember 1942 from 1984? The original Capcom WW2 era vertical scrolling shooter is back with 1942 Joint Strike on the XBLA. This review covers the gameplay, the graphics and sound and shows of the game’s use of 3D 3-dimentional backgrounds in a 2D shooting game. This is a SHMUP (shoot ‘em up) much like Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun, some of the best SHMUPS ever made. Pilot your WWII era fighter plane against wave after wave of enemy bombers, mine layers and other fighter planes. Shoot them down with an arsenal of cool weapons like the spread shot and laser beam. Collect power ups, play with a friend and have a great time. It’s great to see companies like Capcom releasing games on the 360 and on the Sony Playstation Network for the PS3. I played 1943 on the NES Nintendo right before recording this review so I was down with the 194x if you know what I mean. A maniac shooter from a past that doesn’t exist. You can get Gamer Points too. Hooray. I think this is also on the Playstation Network and not sure if they’ll use it for Home or not. Not sure if it is on VC Virtual Console on Wii either. This WWII stealth assin game gets some mixed opinions from CGRHD but an overall good review because of the atmosphere and depth of detail in the environments. Right, moving on… play as a hot chick in tight pants infiltrating the German war machine in World War 2, sneaking up behind guards and stabbing them in the back while talking in a sultry English accent. Use the shadows to hide and cover while you move around cool WW2 era locations like a cathedral, German submarine docks and in colorful fields. Graphically and audibly impressive, Velvet assin could have used some more work in controls and with the length between checkpoints. It proves to be a challenging and underrated game which should appeal to those gamers who like ninja stealth assin third person shooter perspective video games. 12 levels makes Velvet assin a lengthy game that will take quite some time to complete.
